Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy For Stem Cell Mobilization.

Unveiling the HBOT potential is successfully boosting UCB transplants and Engraftment

Exciting new research unveils the benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) in facilitating successful UCB transplants and engraftment.

Stem cells, vital for blood-related cancer treatments, are often sourced from umbilical cord blood (UCB) when no donor match is available. UCB offers favorable outcomes with minimal risks in transplants. However, engraftment, the process where transplanted blood-making cells adapt and thrive in their new environment, poses challenges.

Enter HBOT – a non-invasive treatment where patients breathe 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber, stimulating cell multiplication. Studies reveal that receiving a two-hour HBOT treatment on transplant day, followed by post-transplant sessions as advised by oncologists, significantly reduces the need for blood transfusions. Astonishingly, all patients receiving HBOT were weaned off transfusions within 100 days.

The remarkable results demonstrate that transplanted stem cells successfully attach to bone marrow and begin producing stem cells independently.

Moreover, recent research in the American Journal of Physiology indicates a remarkable increase in stem cell production after HBOT. Patients undergoing radiotherapy experienced an eight-fold rise in CD34 stem cells and substantial growth in colony-forming cells (CFCs) over 20 HBOT sessions.

HBOT's contributions to medical breakthroughs shine through, reinforcing its position as a powerful supporter of scientific advancements for over 70 years."
